The "Virtual Reality (VR) Training Platform" project, promoted by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), is part of the Smart Learning initiative. Its objective is to virtualise each Technical area and support staff training sessions within a Smart Distance-Learning environment.
The platform is designed to implement two maintenance scenarios, which can be carried out in training or examination mode.
It also allows multiple users to simultaneously access a shared virtual space, where training activities are implemented using VR headsets.
Here are the steps for using the application:
Preliminary Phase: The trainer configures the training session via a WEB form, entering the students' matriculations.
Starting the Immersive Session: The trainer starts the session from the WEB form, allowing access to the virtual lobby on the Unity applications of the VR visors. Only registered students with matriculation will be able to log in.
Immersive Lobby and Briefing: The trainer and students wear the VR visors and enter a 3D multiplayer lobby, where they are represented by avatars and can communicate via VOIP.
Execution of the Training/Examination: The trainer sets up the session as "training" or "exam", selecting exercises via the WEB form. Once configured, students and trainer participate in the immersive session.
